Their Los Bronces operation in Chile is a large-scale open-pit copper and molybdenum mine located in the Andes Mountains at over 3,500 metres above sea level. As part of their commitment to innovation and safety, Anglo American continuously explores technologies that enhance operational visibility, minimize risk to personnel, and improve decision-making.<\/p>\n<h3><strong data-start=\"799\" data-end=\"819\">The Challenge<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p data-start=\"821\" data-end=\"1110\">Anglo American needed a reliable and efficient solution to <strong data-start=\"880\" data-end=\"919\">inspect critical underground assets<\/strong> in the Los Bronces mine, such as confined spaces with limited visibility or areas affected by geotechnical instability.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1112\" data-end=\"1142\">The key requirements included:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li data-start=\"1145\" data-end=\"1212\">Remote inspection capabilities in <strong data-start=\"1179\" data-end=\"1212\">restricted or hazardous zones<\/strong><\/li>\n<li data-start=\"1215\" data-end=\"1254\">High-resolution visual data acquisition<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"1257\" data-end=\"1297\">Autonomous or semi-autonomous navigation<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"1300\" data-end=\"1346\">Minimal disruption to existing mine operations<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"1349\" data-end=\"1420\">Operation at <strong data-start=\"1362\" data-end=\"1379\">high altitude<\/strong> with variable lighting and rough terrain<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p data-start=\"1422\" data-end=\"1600\">Traditional inspection methods required personnel to enter unsafe areas, relying on visual estimation or static cameras, posing significant safety risks and limiting data quality.<\/p>\n<h3><strong data-start=\"1611\" data-end=\"1630\">The Solution<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p data-start=\"1632\" data-end=\"1948\">SK Godelius designed and deployed a <strong data-start=\"1668\" data-end=\"1697\">robotic inspection system<\/strong> specifically tailored for underground infrastructure.
